Jamie is joined by Sarah Harmon, licensed mental health counselor, mindfulness instructor, mother, and founder of Postpartum Wellness Group (and The School of Mom) to talk…Perinatal Wellness.  

What is the perinatal stage?  It’s the time from conception to one year after birth (although Sarah and Jamie have longer timing in their heads at times). Hormones, sleep disturbances, etc. - it all does not all of a sudden regulate and become “normal” again past the one year mark.  Also, let’s not forget our pre-conception friends on a fertility journey that have a story here too.

One day this baby comes.  This day creates the biggest changes in your life. These changes are physical, biological, social, emotional, practical, spiritual, etc. It should not be a surprise when people struggle through these common mental issues - we just don't bring this to light in our society often (yet).  

1 in 5 moms experiences significant symptoms of anxiety and/or depression during the perinatal stage.  Partners do too…1 in 10 dads experience mental health issues during this time.  Sarah and Jamie get into what “significant symptoms” mean.
