Unswaddled

Similar to Jamie and Emiliy’s path of growing their families and the NAPS businesses in tandem…Danielle Tanguay and Victoria Peake found themselves growing their business, BabyMatters OT, as they combined their experiences as mothers with their medical work background. You know Jamie loves talking to women entrepreneurs. Just add in sensory talk and developmental milestones -- she’s into it!

Danielle and Victoria took their realities as moms, workers, and wives into consideration and asked themselves - how realistic is our advice we give at hospitals and offices? How individualized is it? How can we roll our pediatric OT services seamlessly into the lives of parents like us?

Many times the word ‘therapy’ comes along with the thought that you are fixing or addressing a problem or issue. That is not the case. Therapy is based in wellness and prevention in many cases (or at least it should be more).

What does a pediatric Occupational Therapist do? How is a OT different from a PT? How can we view our kids’ health from the top down, holistically? Should I know what to ask my pediatrician? Should my pediatrician be talking to me more? When should I introduce utensils? Is this toy developmentally appropriate that I bought? Is my worry about my kid an actual problem? So many questions swimming in our parent brains! :)

Join Jamie (as a fellow forward-thinking parent) as she learns about prevention, optimization, and treatment in all things OT - whether that is based in sensory, cognitive, and/or motor function realms. Feeding even gets rolled into OT territory - along with it issues like colic, gassiness, reflux, etc. We can better understand what is a sensory reaction vs. what is a behavioral reaction.

Beyond milestones like rolling, walking, etc. there is a whole world of development to understand and foster for your baby or toddler. We can have purposeful ways to interact with our babies and toddlers.
